Daniel King - Founding Member

Dan was one of the teams founding members and was the long standing club president. Responsible for the formation of Medieval Combat Wales and previously serving as the club secretary for HMB, Dan has been at the forefront of the sport since its inception in the early 2000s. With a background in Medieval reenactment, Dan has taken his passion for living history with him as he furthers the sport of Buhurt within Wales and across the UK.

Alun Powell - Field Captain & Instructor

Aluns background is in Chinese martial arts but fell in love with the sport of Buhurt as a way to stay in shape and meet like minded people. He still competes and is one of the core members of the Welsh team. His enthusiasm is infectious, his work-rate is inspiring. A gentleman both in and out of the lists, Alun has been instrumental in forming the national squad. He competes in individual Long-sword duels as well as group fights

Toni King - Lead Instructor & Female Captain

Toni has a background in living history and medieval reenactment. Toni was drawn to the sport of Buhurt by her love of history. Toni is one of the most decorated members of team Wales. She has fought in numerous tournaments and competitions and has a long list of decorations. She continues to inspire women to join the sport. As the lead instructor she lays out training plans and seminars to help improve our members skill sets.

Caleb Ball - Team Captain & Instructor

As the in-list captain of the Welsh National Squad Caleb is in charge of team tactics and fighter selection. He works closely with the instructors to make sure we get the very best out of our fighters and will be pushing the team during the upcoming season as Wales strives for its first international trophy!

Ben Bishop - Club Secretary

Ben has been a corner stone of Medieval Combat Wales since its creation and we are happy to announce his unanimous vote of approval to take over as the clubs secretary. A true warrior and driving force behind the gains made by the club over the last 2 years, he will continue to fight in the list for team Wales but now has the much scarier task of doing all the organising! Good luck Ben!

Thomas Lloyd Smith - Serving Club President

Tom is the current club president and organiser. With a background in Japanese and European martial arts Tom fell in love with the sport after happening upon a documentary detailing the rise of Buhurt across Europe. It is Toms passion to grow the sport of Buhurt in Wales. Under his leadership the club has grown in numbers and training locations as well as expanding the clubs operations into film, tv and wedding events as a way of funding future developments.

Dai ‘Spike’ Watkins - Vice President & Lead Instructor

Dai is a long standing martial artist and karate instructor who found the sport of buhurt by chance. And what a lucky thing he did as he fell in love with the sport instantly! Over the course of a few years he went from new member to club VP. He regularly runs classes and leads the way at tournaments. Without Dai the club would not have grown to its current status and with him it will continue to grow!

Matthew Bellis - North Wales Lead Instructor

Matt is the lead instructor for the North Wales Chapter of Medieval Combat Wales

Matt has trained in martial arts for 19 years and been doing buhurt for the past year.

He is an avid metalhead, train enthusiast and motorcycle instructor.

Matt has the daunting task of starting a new fighting chapter of Medieval Combat Wales, finally bringing the sport of Buhurt to the North which has been a dream of the clubs for many years. Together with all the team in the South Matt will lead Team Wales into the future by growing the newly founded North Wales Chapter over the coming years. His enthusiasm and commitment to the sport over a relatively short span of time makes him the perfect choice as North Wales Lead Instructor.
